The 20th Anniversary iPhone: Rumors for the "iPhone XX"
Apple is reportedly planning to launch an all-new iPhone to mark its 20th Anniversary, echoing the landmark launch of the iPhone X for the 10th anniversary in 2017.
Apple aims to take the design innovation even further than the iPhone X. Below are all the current rumors about the rumored "iPhone XX".

Bezel-less Curved Display
Apple's long-standing goal has been to create an iPhone that looks like a single piece of glass, free of notches and bezels. This goal appears to be within reach. The company is allegedly developing a curved display that bends downward on all four sides to achieve a truly bezel-less visual experience, with the screen extending into the frame of the iPhone.
Under-Display Face ID and Camera
To achieve the all-glass design, Apple needs to remove the cutouts for the Dynamic Island and the front camera. Reports differ on whether this will be fully realized. If Apple cannot integrate all features under the display, we may see Under-Display Face ID combined with a small punch-hole for the front-facing camera on the front.
OLED Improvements
Apple plans to use brighter, thinner OLED panels for the 20th Anniversary iPhone, reportedly leveraging Samsung's OLED display technology featuring Color Filter On Encapsulation (COE).
Camera Improvements
Apple may adopt a custom HDR sensor to provide better dynamic range for the Fusion camera. This would be combined with other improvements, such as the rumored variable lens aperture set for the iPhone 18 models.
Apple Modem
So far, Apple has used the C1 and C1X modems in the iPhone 16e and iPhone Air. Apple is expected to introduce an all-new modem by 2027 whose speed and AI capabilities will surpass Qualcomm's offerings. The Apple modem is also expected to significantly boost power efficiency, thereby improving battery life.
A-Series Chip
The iPhone 18 series is expected to use the smaller, faster, and more efficient A20 chip, built on a 2-nanometer process. The 20th Anniversary model, however, is rumored to feature the A21 chip, which may use a second-generation 2-nanometer process.
No iPhone 19
With the iPhone 17 arriving in 2025 and the iPhone 18 series expected in 2026, Apple might skip the iPhone 19 in 2027. It is expected to transition directly from the iPhone 18 to the iPhone 20, iPhone XX, or whatever name the Anniversary Edition will bear.
The 20th Anniversary iPhone is anticipated to be released in September 2027.
