Waterproof iPad mini with OLED Display Rumored for 2026

According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is developing an iPad mini with enhanced water resistance.

The new iPad mini's casing will feature water-resistance similar to the iPhone, making it safer for use in humid environments such as bathrooms or near the pool.

Apple has engineered a new speaker system for the iPad mini that utilizes vibration technology, allowing the company to eliminate the conventional speaker holes on the device.

Removing the speaker holes would reduce the possibility of water seeping into the iPad mini through crevices. This design differs from the iPhone, where Apple uses adhesives and gaskets to protect speaker holes and other ingress points from water. While the iPhone has an IP68 water resistance rating, the current iPad mini has no official water resistance certification, making it vulnerable to water damage.

The next-generation iPad mini may also feature an OLED display and enhanced water resistance, with a launch possibly as soon as 2026.

The price is expected to increase by $100, with the new model starting at an estimated $599.
