Next-Gen AirPods Pro Rumored to Feature H3 Chip and Micro-IR Cameras

Although the AirPods Pro 3 were recently released, reports indicate that Apple has already begun developing the next generation of AirPods Pro, which is rumored to include two major changes.

Specifically, the next-gen AirPods Pro are expected to feature Apple’s H3 chip for wireless audio, as well as micro infrared cameras.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg suggests that the H3 chip will offer improved audio quality and lower latency compared to the H2 chip found in the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3.

Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously indicated that AirPods equipped with infrared cameras might support “in-air gesture controls,” though he did not provide details. He also expects the next-gen AirPods Pro to feature improved integration with Vision Pro.

According to Gurman, these cameras could also enable certain Artificial Intelligence (AI) features, similar to the visual intelligence capabilities found on the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models.

It is currently unclear whether the next generation will be named the AirPods Pro 4 or if it will continue to be marketed under the AirPods Pro 3 name.

Ming-Chi Kuo projects that the next-generation AirPods Pro will be released in 2026. If you are not in a hurry to upgrade, it may be worth waiting for the new model.
